"So many of us get discriminated against or even weaponised due to the color of our skin, our names, our cultures. And you'll say, " No, you're exaggerating" - and I'll tell you that it has happened to me and happens to many others. #BeneathSkin relays issues that people may be unaware of and perhaps it will make you uncomfortable. And if it does, let's all work together to make things easier and better for everyone." - Nilson David, Associate Producer.
"This short film tackles the role of privilege in Western society, particularly in Australia. Casual racism is an underlying issue that is still very much present today, although to some it may seem like it's not. Personally as a person of mixed race background, and someone who does not "pass" - I have encountered my own battles being "different" in this society, despite the fact I am Australian as well. But I cannot even begin to comprehend how difficult it would be for someone in the Black or Indigenous communities. I am thankful to have collaborated on this film with our good friend Nilson and beyond humbled to have heard part of his story. I hope this film helps to spread awareness because at the end of the day, we are all human, we all bleed red and no one should be judged based on the colour of their skin." - Sangeetha Gowda, Writer/Director.
